What is Chiropractic

Chiropractic is the practice of healing the body with natural, noninvasive methods of care using “the hands” to heal.  Desert Oasis Chiropractic and Wellness Group is a family style practice for athletes, children, seniors, adults, men and women. Anyone can and should be treated. Chiropractic is for every individual, whether they have headaches and sore muscles from stress, poor posture at work, or run in marathons and are active in sports. Chiropractic helps align the spine, open up nerve pathways and restore health for optimal body performance.

Chiropractic comes from the Greek word Chiropraktikos, meaning “treatment by hand”.  Chiropractors heal by natural, hands-on methods.  The chiropractor’s main focus is subluxation correction. A subluxation occurs when vertebrae (bone) in the body shift out of place (not necessarily dislocated) and no longer function properly.  Over a short period of time, the joint becomes harder to move. This lack of movement can potentially lead to degenerative changes (arthritis).  As the joint begins to get more sore, swollen and stiff, it can affect the surrounding tissue areas, as well as the nervous system.

Most of the nerves in the body travel through the spinal openings, in order to connect with the central nervous system.  When the subluxation causes the soreness and irritation, it can adversely affect the nerves within that same area.  Chiropractors correct subluxations and restore health.

Chiropractors help guide the body as it heals itself. Almost everyone can benefit from chiropractic adjustments.  Many common symptoms such as headaches, allergies, neck and upper back pain, shoulder pain, digestive disorders, knee pain, sciatica, numbness and tingling, lower back pain, fibromyalgia, and much more… are treated by chiropractic.

Chiropractic is a growing profession and people are seeking alternatives to medications and surgery all the time. They want to heal naturally and feel healthier with options – chiropractic is that option!

Is chiropractic addictive

No.  Chiropractic care is natural and will provide relief after an injury or problem, just as other effective treatment and therapies.  It is not a drug or some artificial means on which you can get “hooked”.  Chiropractic care can cease after the problem subsides, however, maintenance care is always suggested to help you continue on your path of well-being.  You will have a sense of being in balance and discover optimum health. Chiropractic has benefits that extend beyond pain relief. If you take care of yourself by eating right and exercise, this feeling lasts.

It is your choice to return for chiropractic care after your treatment program is over… but it is like getting routine dental exams …would you stop going back for your cleanings after your cavity has been fixed?  The joints and spine also benefit from maintenance care.  If you think that you must repeatedly come back to the chiropractor once you start, you are mistaken.

Does chiropractic hurt?

A chiropractic adjustment should never be painful. Unfortunately, many people will wait until they have pain to seek chiropractic care as an option. Chiropractors are trained to identify and treat the misaligned vertebrae without invasive procedures. The chiropractic technique is a gentle one.

Should I go to a chiropractor if I feel fine?

The best time to go to a chiropractor can be when you feel fine, since most chiropractors will recommend a preventative spinal care program. Chiropractic care can help your body to maintain its healthy state, and regular spinal checkups can help and prevent spinal stress due to subluxations.
